I don't really understand why the developer included the timer. However, after you unlock a hint, you have to wait 30 seconds before unlocking another. This feature is fantastic and completely eliminates the need for a walkthrough. You can toggle a setting that lets you unlock hints on the pause menu. One of the best things the developers implemented, and is what helped me get through the parts where I got stuck, is the hint system. It was more so that I had the right idea, but I just couldn't figure out the proper order to hack things. I got completely stuck maybe 4 or 5 times in my ~12 hour playthrough. There weren't any "how the hell was I supposed to figure that out?" moments. Instead, I judge them by how difficult they are, and I felt that the puzzles in this game were fair for the most part. I don't particularly like or dislike puzzles. Instead of figuring out what item to use on what object like many other adventure games, most of these puzzles involve a pretty unique hacking mechanic. The plot could have used a couple more hours to flesh things out.Īs this is an adventure game, there are puzzles. This made the story feel rushed and undermined the worldbuilding for me. Plus, there is a sequence near the end of the game where it felt like a switch was flipped and the writing team suddenly decided to tackle and resolve everything going on in the background. A lot of the worldbuilding is pretty easily missable unless you go out of your way to interact with everything, talk to everyone, and actually think about what you're seeing. However, I also think that the game didn't explore these themes enough. There are some interesting themes and ideas in this game's world, so much so that the city that you explore actually felt kinda creepy (in a good way). So why didn't I drop this game? The reason is the world/setting. For all of these reasons, I didn't really care for any of the characters in this game. Subvert the world, hack the systems and solve the conspiracy to uncover the devastating truths. We recently got the chance to play through Beyond A Steel Skys first 30 minutes. Furthermore, there is pretty much 0 character development in this game, except for 1 side character. About this UHS File Recycling Plant (Starting Out) Top Level Middle Level LINC Space Ground Level Underground/Subway. Some of the other characters have some funny dialogue, but most do not. He's easily the most likeable/only likeable one because his dialogue is funny. Speaking of forgettable, all of the characters are as well, except maybe Joey. It's not bad by any means, but also pretty forgettable. There is nothing about the story that I found interesting or engaging. Nevertheless, I was still able to follow the story in this game, and I felt that it wasn't anything special. The introductory cutscene doesn't cut it. I feel that the developers should've included a summary or something that recaps key events and characters from the previous game. I've never played the prequel, and probably never will because of how old it is, and I was kinda lost at times.
